J'avais vu et beaucoup aimé la version américaine, mais il va sans dire que la
version originale est de loin la plus
prenante et la mieux réalisée.
C'est après avoir vu
Mademoiselle, du même réalisateur, que j'ai regardé cet incroyable thriller. Plein de
suspense, de
rebondissements et une certaine
ironie que Park Chan-Wook semble affectionner. On ne s'ennuie pas, et on ne peut qu'être
bouleversé par cette histoire ! Cela dit, la toute
fin m'a laissée quelque peu
perplexe.
I had watched the U.S version a while ago, and though I had found the story really great, the original version is obviously the best. It's an amazing thriller, full of suspense, plot twists and a certain irony which seems to be dear to the director, Park Chan Wook, who recently released the brilliant film The Handmaiden.
The film is never boring although it's quite long, and it will upset you for sure.
Still, the end let me a bit puzzled.
Omar M'a Tuer

J'ai beaucoup apprécié ce film sur l'incroyable mais bien réelle histoire d'Omar Raddad, le
jardinier accusé du
meurtre de sa
riche employeuse en 1991. L'interprétation est brillante, la visée du film est clairement de montrer un
homme innocent et
désemparé, ce qui rend l'affaire d'autant plus
poignante. J'espère qu'un jour la
justice fera son travail avec
neutralité et réussira à élucider le mystère !
I don't know if you ever heard about this affair but in France it was very covered by the medias. Omar Raddad, a marocan garderner, was charged with the murder of his rich employer, but many pieces of evidence demonstrates his innocence, so as the film shows. Still, the French justice refuses to recognize it,using incoherent and dubious proofs.
The performance is brilliant and serves a poignant story.
Sleepers

Là aussi il s'agit d'une affaire de
justice inspirée de
faits réels. La première partie raconte les mésaventures de quatre gamins vivant dans le quartier pauvre de Hell's Kitchen à New-York, en 1967. Un
prêtre bienveillant (joué par
De Niro, que j'adore) essaie de les ramener sur "la bonne voie", mais ils sont envoyés dans un
maison de redressement où ils vivront les pires
maltraitances et
humiliations. La deuxième partie du film raconte comment les enfants devenus adultes se
vengeront de leurs tortionnaires.
Un film un tantinet trop long, mais
émouvant et très réussi dans l'ensemble.
Sleepers
is the story of four kids from Hell's Kitchen, sent to a strict reform school after a trick that went wrong. They're under the protection of the local priest (stared by De Niro) who tries to help them escape the misery. But his kindness can do nothing against the humiliations and abuse the four adolescents endure from the reform school's guards.
The second part of the film tells how they will get a revenge from their persecutors.
I found the film a tiny bit too long, but definitely moving and well directed.

Etant fan de
Girls et admiratrice de
Lena Dunham, j'ai voulu regarder ce film qu'elle a réalisé avant sa célèbre série. On y retrouve une grande part de la personnalité d'Hannah, le personnage que Lena interprète dans
Girls. Ici, Aura traverse une
crise existentielle où elle ne sait pas que faire de sa vie et a du mal à accepter son entrée dans le monde
adulte. Le thème de la
famille, du
respect de soi
et des
relations amoureuses y sont également traités de façon
crue et non sans
humour.
J'ai passé un bon moment, cela m'a fait plaisir de retrouver des acteurs que j'apprécie particulièrement dans un autre monde que celui de la série.
As I totally stick to Lena Dunham's work and convictions, I watched this film she made before her famous series, to see what it was worth. The main character shares common points with Hannah from Girls
. Here, Aura is living an existential crisis, not knowing what to do with her life and having trouble accepting that she's becoming an adult. Family, self respect and love affairs are recurring themes treated with Lena's crude and humorous signature.
I enjoyed the show.
Mean Creek

Un film
dérangeant, pour sûr, mais mon avis est
mitigé. Le scénario manque parfois un peu de
crédibilité, bien que l'on sent une volonté de réalisme tout au long du film.
Une
atmosphère lourde s'en dégage, et face à leur lenteur on a parfois envie de secouer les personnages.
Là où le film réussit, c'est qu'il nous
manipule à travers les
sentiments changeants éprouvés par les personnages eux-même, de la
compassion à la
haine.
La fin, émouvante mais toujours aussi pesante, porte à
réfléchir.
This film was disturbing for sure. Hence, I'm sceptical. The storyline sometimes lacks of credibility, although traces of a will for realism can be catched all along the film.
A heavy atmosphere comes out from it, and the slowness of the characters is often frustrating.
I think the film succeeds in manipulating us throughout the evolving feelings of the characters, from sympathy to hatred.
The end, touching but also very awkward, gives food for thought.
